Using 1080p 60p in FC 7.0.3

What software are most of you using to edit the 1080p 60p/30p footage?

I will be bringing it into ProRes in Final Cut 7.0.3 to mix with EX, and digital 35mm.

Any tips appreciated.

Should have a camera on order later today.

Re: Using 1080p 60p in FC 7.0.3

Hi Paul,

This is probably no help at all, but I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, editing the files natively (1080 50p in my case). I use Cineform sometimes if it is an important project, it deals with colours slightly better, especially reds. Performance-wise, I don't notice any difference whether I use Cineform or not.

My PC isn't spectacular, it's an Intel i7 with 8GB of RAM, Windows 7 and separate hard drives for source, temporary and export files.

Just be careful with the sound at 60p, if you use PCM audio you should check your editing software can handle it. I had to switch to Dolby Digital stereo in the camera so it would work for me, it seems as if not all software has caught up with the 50p/60p standard.

To the best of my knowledge (as in I've tried it...), FCP7 will NOT edit nor import 1080P60 footage. We have an FS100 here and can't get 1080P60 footage to import at all.

Thanks for the input.

How about 60p shot overcranked onto 30p timeline, that should work.

Hi Paul,

I use Clipwrap to import 50p footage to FCPX - set to convert to ProRes, and then import as a normal clip - it shows as 50p in the timeline, and can be speed conformed OK on a 25p timeline.

S&Q (60 over 30P) works. 1080P60 WILL NOT IMPORT. FCP7 doesn't recognize it.

Paul Clipwrap looks interesting. Have you noticed quality loss?

Thanks Sean, I was looking for 60p over 30p. My mistake not explaining it properly. I corrected my first post to reflect the proper question.

No, I havenīt noticed any loss of quality - with Clipwrap, you also have the alternative of only rewrapping the mts file to .mov, without converting, but there does not seem to be any time difference in ingesting to FCP.

I find no issues at all. apart from a slightly longer workflow.

Does any editing system accept 1080/60P? I'd love to shoot in that mode.

Premiere Pro CS5 does, and I think also new Edius and Vegas do. Come to think of it, Avid should also support this resolution, but I'm not sure about it.

No worries, just wanted to make sure folks realize they can't shoot in full 1080P60 and expect it to import into FCP7. The S&Q 60 over 30 looks great!

Nice I look forward to shooting that mode a bit with my work. Ordering this week from Abel.
