smeary pans

I generally use my NX5 in the 1920 x 1080 interlaced mode and, using PP1 with some dialled in clout, get good sharp images. But it's pans that blur nastily I find. It's not just the auto-focus that gives up (and reverts to closest focus at the first opportunity) but it's what looks like a case of chronic chromatic aberration. Objects have nasty coloured fringes around them as you pan, and I never used to see this in Z1 days.

Anyone else noticed this? Is there a cure? I'm doing these pans on a tripod, OIS and auto-focus turned off.

Re: smeary pans

Hey Tom,

Mine doesn't seem to exhibit what you are describing but I usually shoot progressive. Do you have any footage you can post online so we can get a better idea what the problem looks like? Or perhaps you can share your exact settings you've made to PP1 so I can match my camera to yours and see if I can duplicate the problem.

Re: smeary pans

I've noticed that my pans are smeary too when I'm filming a lot of people in a row... like in a finale for a dance recital with 300 dancers, and they're all lined up on stage.

When I downconvert from HD to SD in Premiere CS5, it kind of makes it worse. I mostly notice it when I'm zoomed in to the max, which is what I have to do at dance recitals because I'm usually a 100 to 200 feet from the stage!
