Hopping mad... no interval recording?

I've had my NX5U for about a month and a half, and set out to do a timelapse yesterday and...
Sony has stripped interval recording from the features? Really?
Why would they do that?
I might be past the B&H return period, but just in case, s there a comparable camera to the NX5U that does have this feature? Except that one reason I bought it was that it will fit my Sony accessories - batteries, etc.

Part two of the question is that the second came is a Sony HDR CX580V, It's just a little cam - but i'd rather return that one rather than the NX5U and find a small cam that has a timelapse feature but can still record in full HD and is adequate to be a second cam at weddings.

Has anyone here had experience with another cam that will do that?

Or has anyone used comparable rivals to the NX5U that do have interval recording, and how do the cameras compare?

i LOVE my NX5U and this breaks my heart. Really.
Come on Sony, get with the program.

Hmmm... maybe some type of external controller might solve the problem? Anyone have any suggestions on one that has worked well for them?

Panasonic AC130 or AC160 is the Panny equivalent of the NX5, and has interval recording. Canon don't have an equivalent at that price range. JVC's HM600 also has interval, I think. But check that first, my memory may be malfunctioning!
