obvious but: fs100 24p or 23.98p?

i have a project that has footage that was shot is russia a few years back as hdv/1080i/25p.

i will be adding to the footage with interviews where i'll be using my fs100.

i am having a post house transcode the hdv footage to pro res lt/1080p.

but should i tell them 24p or 23.98p?

what are the advantage/down side to 24p vs 23.976?

thanks in advance to those who care to share.

be well.

I'm not sure I can answer all the questions, but I can confirm for you that the FS100 is 23.98fps, not true 24p, even if you see 24p some places in the menus. I suspect you are best doing your project in 23.98.

The US NTSC standard uses a frame rate of 29.97fps, it's isn't actually 30fps (it was changed from 30fps to prevent the audio sub carrier from interfering with the color subcarrier).
23.976 fps allows you to use a 3:2 pull down where you show 2 full movie frames then every 3rd TV frame is made up of field one from the pervious movie frame and field two from the following movie frame, then two full frames and so on. Typically movies shot on film at 24fps are slowed down fractionally to 23.976 so that the same 3:2 pull down can be used, no-one will notice the very slight speed change or audio pitch shift. But for video it's easier just to shoot at 23.976.
