Matching a NEX-5N to a FS700 - is it possible?
 

Anyone had any success matching a NEX-5N with a FS700 - have a corporate shoot on Tuesday and need a two camera setup! If anyone has suggestions for profiles it would be greatly appreciated!

I've done it with a FS700 and NEX-7... it was a last minute shoot and I didn't have time to test.

I didn't use the PP settings, but took the time to match the exposure and white balance.
We came close to getting a similar look in post, but the NEX-7 footage was more contrasty.
I used the 7's footage sparingly... and in the end, I could see the difference... but the client couldn't.

By grading you can match the color and gamma pretty close. The NEX has a lot less DR so try to light well for the NEX, don't let the bright areas blow out. If the shot looks good from the NEX it will be fine from the FS as well.

The NEX shoots 1080 60p so either match this or make sure your shutter speeds are the same. IE, if you shoot 30p at 1/60th on the FS then shoot at 1/60 as well in the NEX, then conform to 30p in your timeline.

If your shutter rate differs it will be very obvious in shots with motion, but not so obvious in static talking heads etc.

I often mix aerial footage from a NEX5n with my FS700 footage, but this is easy because the views are so different. In general the NEX is more contrasty and more saturated. Avoid using auto exposure in the NEX and the FS as well of course.

A good external monitor with A/B switching and scopes is a great help matching cams and exposure to minimize post head aches. You may want to build a custom profile in the FS700 to match the NEX. That is much easier than the other way around.
