Test stream to youtube

I did this test out my front window. Sony PXW-X70 to Sony Xperia z3 phone VLC using tethered Wi-Fi then screen stream app out through 4g to YouTube. I had hopped it would look sharper but it does work albeit with around 30 second lag.

Re: Test stream to youtube

30 seconds lag is the minimum that you get courtesy of the stream encoding reprocessing at YouTube.

Re: Test stream to youtube

Looks like it works pretty well Donald. A 30 second delay would only be noticed if the streamer is watching their own stream ... The viewer in another area or country has no idea there is a delay unless of course he/she is also talking to the person streaming the video on the phone.

What rate does the app encode the video? I wonder (being a highly visible site) how YouTube handle music issues? You could be innocently streaming a live event and they play a copyrighted song over their PA system .. Could be an interesting situation..hopefully they would allow the stream to end and then place their revenue collecting ads on the recorded clip.

Re: Test stream to youtube

I think I read somewhere that the stream goes ahead but the one that is kept.(the one above) goes to digital hell never to be seen again. But that could be overcome by editing out the offending music with the saved SD card and uploaded again at better quality.
encoding bitrate 64 Kbit/s audio

resolution 480p
encoding bitrate 2048Kbit/s
max frame rate 24fps

all are adjustable but I left at default
