PDX10 Service/Repair Options
1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
My PDX10 has started showing symptoms of head wear (see thumbnail). I've tried a Sony cleaning cassette but to no avail. (All tapes play this way and play perfectly in other cams/decks.) Does anyone know of a good service/repair option? I suspect I will need to send it to a Sony depot in the US. I understand Sony have a flat fee - any information about that? Are there non-Sony alternatives? Many thanks, John. |
Hi John. Sorry to hear about your camera. Info on Sony pro service centers is here: http://bssc.sel.sony.com/Broadcastan...eCenters.shtml

Sony's website told me to send mine to http://www.precisioncamera.com/
but I would go through Sony's site and see what they recommend for repair. My repair on my vx was just a little over $500 and seems to work perfect now. |
Keep in mind that the VX series is part of Sony's consumer line. The PDX-10 is (was) part of their line of pro cameras. Service on the pro cameras is handled completely differently than consumer units.

Thank you both for the recommendations.

I did not know that.

Actually this has always been one argument for purchasing the "pro" versions of Sony cameras. The PDX-10 was the pro version of the TRV-950. The PD-150, PD-170, HVR-A1, HVR-Z1 and HVR-V1 are all from Sony's Pro division while the VX-2000, VX-2100, HDR-FX1 and HDR-FX7 are from the consumer division.
I'm lucky in that I've never needed to send a Sony camera out for repair. But reading other accounts here at DVinfo, people report much faster turnaround times and better customer support when dealing with the pro division. |
