Using polarizers to sub for ND

Rather than buying a series of ND filters for my 950, I would like to use a pair of linear polarizers. When they are aligned with each other, there is little or no effect. When set to oppose each other by rotating one 90 degrees, a dark blue cast is created which can be used to simulate a night scene in the middle of the day. Between those two extremes you have a smooth gradation of this light-blocking effect. Does anyone use this setup?

I have posted about how to do this in the past, and there were several members that wanted to try it. I think it is easier and cheaper to use good ND filters than 2 polarizers.

Thank you for the update. The polarizers were available to me for almost nothing so it seemed worth a try.

Where is a good and cheap place to buy ND filters and polarizers? I've been looking and some places either have no selection or charge and arm for shipping.

Do you want to buy them in Vancouver or from one of dvinfo's sponsors?
