Matching the PD100A image with the PD150????
 

Hi. I am using these two cams for a film shoot and am wondering how I can get the image from the PD100A to match (exposure mostly) the PD150. I know the image quality will be slightly different, but I need the exposure and light response to be the same. Any ideas? If the PD150 is set to F5.8 what should the PD100A be set to? How much difference is there between them as far as exposurew ranges go?

You simply can't go by the aperture setting readouts Brandon. If you want to do the job properly then you'll need a studio monitor that can be switched between cameras, fine tuning one (or both) so that they match on screen visually. You'll probably find that both cameras give different colours even if they're both set on the same w/bal preset, and this will need fine tuning too.

The next thing you may notice is that Panasonic often have higher lebels of 'sharpness' applied, giving the grizzly 'black line' effect. Both cameras have custom preset menus that will allow you to fine tune them, but again you'll need the studio monitor (or very good TV) and lots of time to set up before the shoot.

Tom: Brandon didn't say anything about Panasonic, he was asking about the Sony PD-100a. Maybe you were thinking of the DVX-100a?

Regardless, your advice sounds pretty good to me. I find, for example, that the VX-2000 can be set to match the PDX-10, but not by default. The white balance is definitely different between those two cameras.
