video capture and playback

Sorry for the newbie question but what basic and inexpensive program can I use to capture and playback video (not interested in editing) from my PDX-10 on my computer?

Also, I now have a 26" 16:9 LCD TV with composite/ component and HDMI inputs. However the PDX-10 and all other camcorders I know of only have composite and firewire out. I would love to playback video uncompressed on the tv but the tv does not have firewire in and the the camcorder does not have hdmi out - plus I don't know of a firewire to hdmi adapter. That leaves me only a composite connection which sacrifices quality, correct?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Are you using a PC or a Mac? On the Mac you could use iMovie or BTV Pro.

Doesn't your LCD have s-video input? My 22" LCD does. That gives pretty good quality, although you will need to adjust the brightness on the monitor since the PDX-10 doesn't add setup to the s-video output. I don't know about firewire to HDMI, but I send firewire from either my camcorder or computer to a Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder. The recorder is connected to the LCD panel via component video. This seems to give the best possible quality. I looked at other firewire>component converters, but they cost nearly as much as the DVD recorder.

I have PC actually.

I have been using the S-video on the lcd - just thought there might be a way to utilize the firewire out to hdmi in for best quality.

Thanks,

Brian
