Raynox wide angle
 

Hello all,

I own a Raynox HD5000 Pro 0,5 wide angle that i fit on my TRV-950. I'm pretty happy with it (the deformation is visible but still acceptable) but i get lots of artifacts due to the sun light. I'd not be able to describe them in english so let me show you a screenshot :

The image is interlaced but it doesn't matter, you get what i mean. There are two noticeable effects there.

How could i get rid of that ? I think i can't hook any filter on the Raynox HD5000. I'm ready to buy a new wide angle even with an extra accessory if necessary. What would you advice me to buy ? I need a 0,5x high quality wide angle on a 37 mm ring, just like that Raynox, but with the possibility to avoid these artifacts. My budget is $150-200 max.

Did you photgraph this through the window of a moving vehicle?

1. There looks like quite a lot of camera movement.
2. Looks like reflections off glass.
3. There is lens flare (from the sun)
4. And there is Vertical smear. (Long straight line)

May I suggest that you take another photo with the camera on a tripod (to prevent movement) and take the photo not pointing into the sun. Then it may be easier to start to review and help you.

If you have movement, through glass into sun, all lens' will struggle.

It's actually a captured image from a video footage, taken by car, you're right. The glass of the car is down though. I have to film in that way but i'd like to avoid all these rays coming in the lens.

I notice that the Canon WD-58H wide angle has a sunshade included. Is it the same kind of accessory i'd need ?

I have the Century wide angle for my 950. It has a 62mm front thread. I keep a UV on it permanently and also have a folding rubber lensshade that is not expensive. At wide open I fold it back so it projects about 1cm foreward, and as I zoom in I open it. I also have the Cokin filter system with cokins lenshood. It works at all but the widest zoom.

Can you give me the name references of all these accessories ? Thank you.

You would need a 62mm ring, a filter holder and a lenshood. You can look for them at B&H.

If i understood well, here are the two possibles schemas :
TRV-950 => Century wide angle => 62 mm ring => Filter holder => UV filter
TRV-950 => Century wide angle => Lenshood

But is it possible to do the following one :
TRV-950 => Century wide angle => 62 mm ring => Filter holder => UV filter => Lenshood

Is it the Cokin system you use ?

All your examples are possible. Mine is a little different. I have the
Century ==> Cokin 62mm ring with filter holder===> Cokin Lens hood.

Usually though I remove the UV filter when I mount the Cokin system so my second option looks like this
Century===> Screw in 62mm UV Filter ===> Screw in 62mm foldable rubber lenshood.

To get back to Lucius' original problem - the artifacts you see are caused by non image forming light bouncing around inside the lens elements of your zoom + Raynox, and it's called flare.

The easiest way to avoid this is to shoot with the light behind you, but as this isn't always possible or desirable, the answer has got to be: get a lens hood, and use it.

The lens hood is the cheapest, lightest, simplest accessory you can buy and it brings with it rewards that are out of all proportion to the cost. Your second shot Lucius shows that when light doesn't strike the front element the image quality is fine, and there's no flare.

I thought I had mentioned this but have you looked at the Cinetactics MatteBlox? It is a soft matte box system that works with almost any lens and has verious shade extensions.
