Using 2 PD-170's Time Code Sync

I want to use 2 of these cameras and want to use the remote control to set the time code values and the run in order to lock the two timecodes for editing purposes.

Does anyone know if the remote will set and activate the time code?

I don't think so. This is normally accomplished with cameras at least one step up from the 170. Most Pro cameras have a Sync Jam capability which lets them slave from another time code.

the remote will start recording process and of course allow playback in the VTR mode and oh yeah you can zoom the lens with the remote but as for setting time code-that would have to be done on the camera and then both cameras started with the remote at the same time. A tricky situation at best. I have a 150 170 250 and even when I had 2, 150s and tried just for giggles to get them both going at the same time it was dicey unless they were right next to each other to catch the infra red beam of the remote.
Anyway in answer to your question no the remote will not set time code just start the camera recording. The rest is up to you.

well thx anyway for the reply's. Too bad, even the canon XL-2 has this feature on the remote. You can manually set the TC to zero on both units, point the remote at them and they both start TC together.

You will not able to get a frame accurate sync but you can get something close. Set you timecode to free run on both cameras. Then set the time on both cameras at the same time. Like I saids, its something close and it really helps.

Why not set it to 'record run' and preset the time code. Then when you hit record on the remote, they should be pretty darn close, no?
