Sony PD150 vs. Pana DVC80

What's the final word on this? It seems to me that Panasonic has the perfect competitor for the 150, or am I missing something?

I am trying to decide between the two for event videography. DVC80 is roughly $250 less, is years newer, and has wide-angle built in. Are they equal in quality?

Thanks to all in advance for your feedback!!!

According to the BBC, the PD150 is more rugid for field use. If you want slightly higher resolution, you'll have to go with the DVC80, in way of a 1/3"/3 chip hand-held. Personally, I like the DVX100 (I haven't seen a DVC80 yet). I'm sure, though, both cams are equally as good each with some pro's and con's. The DVC is better balanced, making it easier to hold and if it's like the DVX100, the controls are better laid out.

Very helpful info. Stuff I already knew just from research but it's always great to hear another opinion from someone who is in your field.

I guess I've just always had it stuck in my head that everything I bought had to be a Sony because I knew it would be quality. Then here comes Panasonic with their little wonders (DVX100 & DVC80) and they are forcing people to re-think the whole Sony only idea. Anyone else feel this way?

By the way, does the BBC post any relevant info to this topic online somewhere?

I think I read what the BBC wrote on http://www.dv.com's camera forum---or maybe here somewhere. Do you want me to find the link and post it here?

Thanks for the link as I need to make a decision soon.

I appreciate your help and recognize your name from the MANY forums I have read here. As you can tell my "title" says tourist but I have been frequenting this forum for a while and hope to be able to "give back" some of what I have learned for the next "tourist."

Any and all info on the comparisons between these two models would be extremely beneficial.
