Gl2 has got VX2100 on one issue...
 

Handling, quality and low light, IN BH Photo I compaired the two side to side ( I have also shot with the Gl1, and Gl2 many times)
The Gl2 cant shine the VX2100's shoes. However, I shoot alot of concerts, and I ALWAYS throw the Gl2 into frame mode and it looks great. It does "Something" to the video, gives it more of a film, creamy feel. I know this has to do with shooting in progessive 1/30 shutter speed. Im not exactly sure what that means. If you want to inform me alittle more, please do, but dont feel obligated because there are a TON of other posts on the issue that I have read

Question. Is there software (Magic bullett comes to mind) that can imitate the canon frame mode in post preduction?
Can the Vx2100 or PD170 shoot in 1/30?
Baseically, what I planned on doing was buying a VX2100 or PD170 ) And shooting everything in 4:3, 30p, than importing to premier, exporting the file as a widescreen (1.2) file and using the Dud effect to give it letter bars. Is there a better way to do this? Thats for the letterbox look, now only to give it that film look

I don't have a GL2, but when I was shopping around for a camcorder, I liked the idea of the "frame" mode. This isn't
30 fps progressive, though. And ...... that's why I passed and went for the VX2000. The VX2000 can do a 15 fps progressive, according to the manual.

As for the reduced motion, you can reduce the motion of your
60i video with a video editor. There are many threads on this
forum discussing the "film" look of lower frame rates (24p, 30p).

And, I agree with your comments on the perception of the motion signature. Excepting audio quality, my friends seem to prefer the crappy 15fps progressive 320x240 movies from my Canon S40 camera (plugged into TV) for sports (well, martial arts sparring) footage.
