PD170 with Soft Audio

I just got my PD170 and also purchased a ME66/K6 combo. I've noticed that when taping with the stock mic my audio was soft. I've attached the ME66 with mic attn on and the audio is still soft.

Is the audio supposed to be on the softer side with these cameras? My TRV900's audio is a lot louder compared to the 170. I've noticed others on this board with similar problems so I beginning to think this is normal for the 150/170's. Any comments or suggestions?

Paul, 'soft' isn't a defined technical term. What do you mean by that? Volume?

The cameras do not have a volume problem at all.

How is your camera set up?

Mike,

Yes I do mean "volume". When the video is played back the volume is soft. When checking the audio meters the meters will peak at around -20db. Is this normal and is the lower volume level normal for this camera? By comparison my TRV900's volume is a lot louder. Of course louder may not necessarily be "cleaner" but I'm just curious if this is a normal situation with the volume being recordered lower on the 170.

Right where is should be. See the other posting in which you've asked this same question. Don Bloom has a pretty good answer.
