rewind from end of tape=munchies
 

hello,

my camera (vx2000) is at the point where if i rewind from the last 5 to 10 minutes of a tape...the tape gets damaged by the camera.

this sucks because a lot of good footage (last few minutes of tapes) seems pretty much unusable right now.

i have a sneekie suspision that the problem arised from letting the camera record right to the end of tapes all the time...not rewinding said tapes...storing them in a backpack that was usually moving...and trying to rewind tapes from the end...

if that makes any sense.

any info or advice about this little issue (which feels like it is getting bigger every day) would be very much appreciated.

ps. when one gets their camera professionally cleaned...do people get the inside of their lenses cleaned? i swear that there is a tiny piece of dust on the inside of my lens

I don't have a suggestion for your slightly confusing post about tape damage.

As for a piece of dirt in the lens. The image of the dirt will not be focused onto the CCDs so it doesn't matter except for a very very small reduction in light transmission.

Camera cleaning does not usually include lens disassembly. In fact, you don't want anyone to do it that does not have the jigs and collumators necessary to do the job right. Lens elements have to be centered, etc. And, to tell the truth, I wouldn't be surprised that the lenses in these cameras are not repairable and cannot be opened.

Most camcorders have the lenses replaced as an assembly if there is a repair required. Your tape eating problems sound more serious than just a cleaning. However, leaving a tape loaded in the camcorder for extended periods will create slack in the tape. Excessive slack can cause the eating problems you describe. Try not leaving your tapes threaded and see if the problem goes away. Otherwise it's a trip to the repair center.
