I cannot find a reference when I search the manual. I don't think so.

The camera has such low noise that I'm not certain it is useful.

Did you have a specific application in mind?

no. i was over at the 2-pop board and someone was trying to find it out. i was curious myself so i brought it over here.

I think you'll be able to do it in custom preset, the little button at bottom of carry handle.

Mike Rehmus December 25th, 2003 06:56 PM

No I don't think so.

You can set the upper limit of auto gain to 6 or 12 dB in the Custom Preset menu or leave the setting off in which case the camera will use up to 18 dB of gain..

If I can still remember clearly, for Sony, only the TRV900/PD-100 has -3dB setting in their custom preset menu.

Correction - I could set -3db in the custom preset. Something did not look quite right about that little minus sign so I put my close-up glasses on. - Now I cannot set -3db in the custom preset, since I cleaned the LCD screen and picked that little mark off.

That faint tapping sound you can just hear is the egg dripping from the tips of my nose and ears onto the floor.

My apologies for the disinformation. I guess some here have read the article on www.megameme.com/vx1609.htm which mentioned this feature along with a shootout between the Century Optics and Optex 16:9 anamorphic adaptors. I've been running around with my camera working on this preset for over 6 months.

Have a Merry remaining Christmas and Happy New Year and stay safe folks.

That's right, it was only the TRV900/PD100 that had a -3db setting, and very useful it was too, acting to lower the noise floor as well as absorb half a stop. As soon as you needed gain up it was automatically dialled out.

The lower noise HAD chips used in the 950/VX2k meant that -3dB setting was no longer needed.

tom.
