PD-150 lightweight

Has anyone tried attaching some kind of "weight" to the pd-150 to improve handheld stability? I'm interested in any experiments in this regard.

2)

somewhere on this site a post said 'deinterlaced video from a pd-150 looked better than frame mode in the xl1s'.

Any comments on why this would be? doesn't frame mode in xl1s combine both fields into one progressive frame, whereas deinterlacing throws one field away and doubles the remaining field ?

Getting ready to go do a wedding, but a quick answer. If I'm not useing the shoulder brace at a wedding reception, I will attach the wireless recv'r to the battery. I use a Lenmar 15 hour battery that sticks out pretty far from the back of the cam, I use velcro about 1 1/2 inch wide on the battery and the same on the recv'r. I can't use the VF but I generally use the LCD anyway. With the shotgun, on cam light and a WA lens a good deal of the time the recv'r really helps to balance out the cam. However, it is pretty heavy with all that on it and at least with the shoulder brace I've got balance AND a place to rest the camera.

The quickest stabilizer is the monopod because of the plumb-bob weight. A 'L' bracket works good too.

I personally find that cradling the 150 between my left and right hands to be the most stable. Gives me control over the lens too.

Best of all would be a carbon fiber bar screwed into the tripod socket with a small and heavy weight at the other end. Maybe as little as one-half of a pound 2 feet away might be effective.


Deinterlace does not have to be a discard of one of the fields. Don't know which programs do what. But frame mode differs from deinterlacing at a fundamental level. In frame mode all the lines in the the picture are sampled in sequence whereas in field mode, the two fields are displaced in time by 1/60th of a second. Can make a difference depending on the scene.
