Any footage shown at the event?

Interesting..
I've heard pricing from $6K USD to $8K USD.
I've also heard $4K euro.

I hope they hit the $6K USD mark since the $8K price point with cards will bring the camera to the 10K mark. For a fixed lens camera, I 'd question this price point.

About eight minutes of XDCAM EX 1080p video was shown. Projected through Sony's 4K SXRD CineAlta. A lot of material shot in Chicago; looked great.

With the currently sagging USD the price is unlikely to be lower than $8k. Maybe just by a couple hundred bucks but I doubt it would be initially anywhere near $6k US. The price is reasonable for what it is, IMO. This camera even with its fixed lens is likely going to be a head and shoulder above the others here (Z1, ProHD, HVX). To be seen... and tested, that is. :-)

Again, that phrase, "XDCAM EX series."

If the PMW-EX1 is the first of the series, like the Z1 was the first of Sony's 3-chip HDV series, then I'm really looking forward to the "V1" of the XDCAM EX line. Especially since I am coming to the regrettable conclusion that the PMW-EX1 will be out of my price range.

I'm hoping for a smaller, lighter, cheaper XDCAM camera (maybe with the new 1/3" CMOS chips used in Sony's new HDV cameras) with HDMI. Price it under $5000?

Maybe a hard-disk optional accessory to allow for extended shooting without swapping out flash cards?

Actually, I would like to see a camera like the EX but in a shoulder mount with a longer lens.

A decent 20x fixed lens on a big body with more card slots would be great.

Maybe for $11,000 or $12,000.

I can't afford a $30,000 HD lens & the larger XDCAMs but I often like a longer zoom and larger bodies.

As a friend of mine points out:

Hey guys, if you're worried about the price being 8K, maybe you should read this statement regarding the list price of the new cam

Jeroen Wolf September 19th, 2007 01:34 AM

I attended IBC and the Sony guy literally said 6500 euro's. With the PD-150 and the Z1 the pricetag translated directly to US dollars. That's why I always buy my gear in the States :)
So if this trend continues, the EX should be close to $6500
Having said that, this camera is a 'universal' model ie 50i/60i, 24/25P so Sony may try to protect their European market by keeping price differences throughout the world to a minimum.

The camera ships with two 8 GB cards.
