Any guesses on a street price?

If this cam is only 30-45 days away, what do you think the initial street price will be?

I think the $7,499 price that B&H posted early-on but then promptly removed is probably it.

I noticed that B&H just added more information and that the camera will come with one 8GB card and not two, as had been rumored.

I'm hearing it supposed to come with two cards if bought before the end of the year. At least this is what I'm hearing overseas.

The low US dollar is causing price adjustments, so B&H are possibly recalculating their price or removing the second SxS card to adjust to the low exchange rate of the USD.

The introductory offer here is A$9490 (without tax) with smaller battery and two 8GB cards. I suspect the 2 card offer is pre-release, but I've no knowledge of such a limit. That would make the price US$8500 but your larger market will probably get the price lower. The camera is made in Japan, so your exchange rate against Yen is probably the thing to watch.

Hi Serena,

Yea, even with exchange rates, US pricing is always favorable to AUS, all my family lives there (my Aunt lives in Port Melbourne no less) and they are always complaining.

i'm betting the $7,499 Us price will hold firm, if only because there has been some much us marketing/speculation at the US$7K price point.

Here's a copy and paste from the B&H [pre] listing

• Lens Hood
• Large Eye Cup
• IR Remote Controller
• USB Cable
• A/V Connecting Cable
• Component Video Cable
• Shoulder Strap
• Operation Manual
• XDCAM EX Clip Browsing Software
• SxS Device Driver Software
• SBP-8 SxS Pro Memory Card
• BP-U30 Battery
• BC-U1 Charger
• 1-Year Limited Warranty

So... just one card, which sucks but only well.

A 1 year warranty is better than their HDV models (big considearation as Sony has a madatory $500 fee for anything these days.

"Available until December 31st 2007, or until stocks run out, all PMW-EX1 XDCAM EX Camcorders will ship in Australia with an extra 8GB SxS PRO™ card - this is in addition to the 8GB SxS PRO™ card supplied as standard".

This is a quote from videoguys.com.au, so it is a limited offer.

Just remember for those doing events, weddings etc, that the camera will only do 2 hours on the supplied battery, and 4 hours on the optional larger battery so you're going to need a few of those (expensive) beasts.

I guess you could plug into DC and lug a brick. Didn't check the DC-in voltage. Battery max is 16.4, min 14.4, or maybe that is the DC-in.

B&H Price

Just called today to buy some stuff. Asked about the EX and the sales guy knew a good amount about the cam. I asked what it may retail for and if I could pre-order.

He said 6-7K with 1 8gig card and the 8 gig cards would be "around" $200.

I said I was thinking around closer to 8 but he said no.

I hope this is the case.

I just spoke to my sales guy and he didn't know about the price, but said he didn't expect the unit before Christmas. Ugh! I thought this thing was supposed to come out next month! I don't see how the 8gig cards could sell for $200, though... they list for $500 according to Sony.

Hmmm

He did say late November. Maybe he was thinking the lower end cards and not the Sony "sanctioned" one. Not sure really. I am going to keep creating my own reality and visualize $6500 and $200 per card...

:)

Mike, if what he told you hold true, you just made my Christmas!

6500 might be the deal breaker for me. I've been in Canon's camp since the L1/2 Pro Hi8 days. But at that price with what you'd get, Sony is going to be completive even with the XH-A1 (if you add everything you'd need to make it a similar setup given I'm tapeless now and wont switch back.)

PMW-EX1: ?$6500?
Comes with a real High Def LCD
Has buit in tapeless recording
1/2" sensors with a near pro lens for greater DOF
total: (and we're praying) $6500

vs.

XH-A1: $3500
FSC for tapless: 60GB $1250
External Monitor for critical focus work: ikan: $750+noga arm: $100
Add the 35mm adaptor of your choice + any lenses: $1000 and up
total: $6600 and up, depending on the lenses for a basic M2 kit.

Yes I would reconsider everything if the PMW-EX1 came out at $6500
I think a lot of people would. Do I think it will happen? I hope so. I sadly couldn't afford it if it hits the streets at $7500-$8000. I mean, I have to draw a line somewhere. Right?

Lets start a petition for that line to be $6500

Who's with me?

I bet you dollars to doughnuts it's going to be $7,499 with one 8GB and those lucky folks with connections will be taking delivery right before Thanksgiving.

That'll be right after the 100+ units that CNN apparently has on order.
