EX1 Wide angle converter
 

Hi,

I wonder if some of you have tried the x.8 wide angle converter ?
Is it heavy ?
Is it changing the balance of the camera ?
Can you put the matebox on it ?

Is it good quality ?
Vignetting ?
Deformations ?
How many stops loss ?

Is it comming in a good package ?
How to store it without the risk of shock when you're on stage ?

Maybe some of you have pictures of the lens, and pictures shooted with it ?

Hello, the wide angle converter from Sony (VCL-HG0877) is by my poit of wiev not a good choice. Is better you wait a wideangle converter by 16/9 inc or Century optics. Because i had not beautiful experience with this lens. In past i had a wide angle converter for the DSR-PD150, the resulta was cromatic abberation in the "corner of screen".
The 14x Fujinon lens built in the EX1, is for normal shoot, wide enough.

The 14X on a 1/2 "chip" is pretty wide on th eshort end and not very tight on the long end. I'm sure either Century Optics or someone will have a nice WA, if they don't already have one, very soon, but before inesting why not try the standard and see if it's wide enough. I would think that for most work the 14X would probably be sufficient. I base this opinion on having used a 16X on a 1/2 chip camera and found it was ALMOST wide enough to do what I needed so the 14 might just fit the ticket.

What is the diameter of the EX lense?

I believe 77mm

Bear in mind that the wide angle adaptor for the EX1 works in conjunction with the CA reduction circuits that you switch on in the menus when it is attached. Third party adaptors may not work with this function.

i'm sorry but the 14mm you're talking about is a 30 equivantent in 35mm. 30 is not that wide, when you're used to work with cinema lenses, going down to 20, 18 or less.
The wide angle takes the EX1 down to 25, which is not as wide as I would have expected for some situation. One of my next project will bring me to a long shoot in a car. I hope 25 will be wide enough to get everything I want without aberations.

I hope someone will come here with some footages or tests.

Hello to all,

I am the Regional Sales Rep for Schneider Optics. Our Century brand attachments for the Sony PMW-EX1 should be available by mid February. We will have at least 3 lenses to begin with more coming soon. As usual, out wide angle will be wider than the Sony. The exact magnification has yet to be determined.

Yes, we will offer at least two different fisheyes. The telephoto is a definite but the timing is uncertain. There are some issues with the zooming range that need to be worked out. We should have all the attachments by NAB.

The 14x goes as wide as 5.8mm, which is equivalent to a bit more than 30mm in 35mm *still* (8-perf "Vistavision") format. The size of the a 35mm still frame is approximately 36mm wide.

35mm cine has a frame approximately 24mm wide. The EX1 at 5.8mm is equivalent to a tad over 20mm in 35mm (4-perf vertical) cine.

So the EX1 is really rather wide right out of the box.

I would assume pricing is not available yet but it would be nice to know how much more over the HDV attachments the cost is going to rise.The extreme Fisheye for my VX2000 compared to what the one for the Z1 costs is a huge diference and is almost getting close to the cost of another camera. I hope the EX1 does not see the same increase...

The price increase will be moderate. I cannot comment at this time as to the exact pricing.
