EX1 and Final Cut Studio 2
 

Does anyone know what kind of support/limitations/etc Final Cut Sudio 2 offers when working with the EX1?

Complete support, no limitations...

Are there any workarounds with Leopard? My macbook pro and final cut studio 2 arrive tomorrow and I hope to get some EX1 footage from my local dealer.

Hi

The cards mount and work fine with Leopard and Studio 2 on my Macbook pro.

Just be sure to download the SxS driver and xdcam transfer software from sony. Also be sure to run the software update on the mac to be sure you have the current release.

Hey There Chuck,
My macbook and software arrived a day early so I spent a little time with it last night and did the software update as you suggested. I haven't loaded any software yet but when I do I'll get the sony driver and transfers software as well. This is my first mac computer and final cut software so I'll be taking it slow at first but from what I understand the transition from Premiere isn't too painful. I do need to get a good external drive in the 250-500 gig range so I can load some footage, I guess that is next on my list. Thanks for the information and tips.

Trivia tidbit that Randy Ubillos who was one of the developers of the earlier version of Premiere was also one of the early developers of Final Cut Pro.

I kinda think FCP was where he'd have taken Premiere had he been given the opportunity.

Not to take it off topic, but here is the history.

Randy worked on the first quicktime video editing software program called RealTime.. This was bought by Adobe and turned into Premiere. He left because he was unhappy with the product direction. He went to work for Macromedia to design a Windows based video editing program called... Final Cut. Macromedia ran out of money and sold it to Apple for the rumored price of around $10 million. Randy and his team went with the software over to Apple. Apple wanted it to show off the new version of quicktime that they had developed, Quicktime 4. I understand that they did the port over to the Mac OS in less than a year.

P.S. What have you heard from your favorite dealer and mine regarding delivery of our FX1's?

The XDCam EX Clip Browser software will work only on Intel-based Macs.
