DV Info Net - Tampere by night

Dear everyone,

Greetings from Finland. Did a little movie of my first footage I got with my EX1 and Letus Extreme.

All the footage is shot mainly with Letus35 Extreme adapter, only a few shots without. Mostly 720p but some 1080p shots edited on 720 timeline. A lot of timelapse with slow shutter at 16. The image looks a bit noisy because I tweaked it a lot in post and I like that sort of washed tint a lot. I edit with Vegas Pro 8. The workflow is really easy and works great.

I really love the Letus35 Extreme. There is a slight problem using EX1 with the LEX though. When the center of the ground glass is in focus the edges are not and vice versa. According to Letus it’s a problem with the EX1 and they are trying to find a solution to it. Also one minus is although the LEX is really quiet you cant use it with the camera mic. The LEX vibration is carried into the mic via the camera body and you can hear a loud low rumble on your recorded audio. But it is amazing and I really think that is the key element for me to get what I want. I come from a film world and love the bokeh and the depth of field. Ah no, that’s an understatement, can’t live without is better, hehe.

I was also like many others considering getting rid of the viewfinder of the EX1. But I went out to shoot and there was a slight drizzle and realised that it is indeed very good to have when it rains. I wouldn’t want to get the LCD wet. So I used the LCD just to get exposure and focus right and then switched to the EVF. The peaking function is amazing. Especially with the LEX its really useful. As is the histogram. I still dont fully understand how you are supposed to work with the white balance buttons (even after reading the manual many times). It doesn’t seem very intuitive.

There seems to be a lot of low light capability as has been reported many times. I was shooting in total darkness and it did well. The darkness here in Finland is really something else :)

I like that you can access many of the menu items direct from the LCD with the joystick. There's a lot of positive things about this camera and I'm yet to play with a lot of the functions. The Picture Profiles, slow motion (one of my main reasons for getting this baby!).
