When I first got my EX1 I only had Final Cut 5.1. It could import and edit EX1 footage shot in 1080 SP mode(25mbps) just fine - not 1080 HQ mode HQ footage (35mbps).
Final Cut 6.0.2 is needed to handle the HQ mode footage.
If you have 5.1 already the upgrade easy nad then your flying.

Of course, because XDCAM 25 Mbps mode (SP) in the EX1 is identical to the 25 Mbps mode of her big sisters, F330 and F350. And it's also almost identical to the HDV codec.

Anyone have any thoughts, betterstill experience of editing ex1 hd footage with an intel imac 2.0GHz?

Not as my main computer, I use an imac 2.16 ghz with 1 gig of ram. For general editing with fcp it seems to work fine. For intensive cpu and ram functions, I'm not sure. Best bet is to borrow your girlfriends imac and take it for a test drive.
