Feathers - A Pillow Fight Spectacular

I shot this last weekend when I stumbled upon the International Pillow Fight Day in Copley Square. Cut together a little piece which you can see here:

A question/comment: Has Vimeo downgraded their encoding settings? The last/first video I put up on Vimeo looks great, but this does not look so hot. Obviously there is a lot more motion in this one. I encoded the MP4 (which you can download on Vimeo) the same way as the last one, and that looks great. Has anyone else noticed a change in the Vimeo encoding quality or is this just a content specific problem?

Enjoy.

Yes i'm not thrilled about the quality of the clips lately. By the way your clip is on private.

What a great thing to stumble upon. Thanks for showing. Can I ask what PP settings did you use or what grading did you d in post? Also, the darkness in the corners, it looks like its added but is it deliberate or the dreaded vignetting?

looks really nice, but the compression is really pixellated indeed. Strange.

I put up a test yesterday of a VERY high quality (RED) 1920x1080 image to see what Vimeo would do with it. I was very disappointed.

I wonder if they are getting SLAMMED with new subscribers because of the Stage6 situation. I also noticed that the conversion times are now through the roof. I used to see conversions in the range of a few minutes. Now, it's nothing to wait in line for an hour or more, and conversions to take hours.

But I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

Last night I uploaded clips and instead of seeing the encode progress bar start there was an apology that there'd be a delay which looked to be about an hour. It mentioned that they were apparently overwhelmed with uploads.

They've also switched from 720p24 to 720p30 (Yea, IMHO) and some folks (like me) had asked that they recompress stuff since I shoot at 30p.

You know what.....I also realized that the little HD On/Off button on Vimeo was set to Off. When I selected On the quality improved drastically. Yeah, for free on-line playing of our videos, Vimeo is still probably the best going, other than streaming off one's own site.

Was gonna suggest maybe you upload one of your vids that you had already posted and were happy with again under a different name and see if it looks the same. If not I would post on their forums with links to both of the video's and see what they say about it. One thing I like is that their staff are pretty good about reading and responding on their forums and for the most part are pretty forthcoming if there is an issue.
