HQ all audio?
 

A friend of mine, who happens to own an HVX200, told me about a recent article (he thinks Studio Daily but not sure) where the writer was claiming the extra 10 mbps HQ offers over SQ is all going to audio. Sounds dubious, but I've not actually tested. Anyone else heard this?

If I'd bought the 200, I'd be pissed too.

I read Studio Daily (and many other trade magazines and sites). NO SUCH ARTICLE EXISTS from any established site or magazine that I've read. It would be false and no established site or magazine or site would be THAT BAD in it's technical fact checking and stay in business.

Tell you friend I can sell him a bridge cheap and the earth is flat too. You friend either lacks the most rudimentary knowledge on data rates, audio etc. or he's lying. Sorry to be so blunt but quoting "friends" who haven't a clue serves no purpose.

Do the smallest amount of research of fact checking and one would know that he hasn't the vaguest clue.

Anybody making any kind of CLAIM should back such claim up with DOCUMENTATION.

We really don't need "My friend says the earth is flat" posts on a forum of this caliber.

It's not your fault for not knowing but it is your friends for presenting false information and obviously providing no documentation.

Btw, (48000/s*16bit*2)/10^6 = 1.536MBit/s.

Craig, please note the hints of skepticism in my original post. Turns out, he thinks he may have read it in someone's blog. Not a reliable source by any stretch and I probably shouldn't have repeated it here. My apologies.

That being said, yes he is a "friend", but he is also a competitor who could be using and spreading this kind of misinformation to his benefit. I thought it worthy to at least mention what is being repeated as fact in the field. Rumors and perception require no documentation (as recent world events have taught us, again). Better to tackle this nonsense head-on, right here, no? OK, maybe not.

You may remember my thread from last January addressing EX1 backfocus issues. Other than one other user (from S. Korea, I believe), no one would/could confirm or deny my concerns, despite my desperate begging and pleading to the contrary. It wasn't until many weeks (months?) later that people even noticed this major, shot-destroying flaw, perhaps because I failed to mention my ND settings for testing purposes. Either that or people dismissed me as a crackpot (and they very well may be correct!) only to later discover that they, too, had a backfocus problem. Not to say these occurrences are related, just feeling a bit silly on both accounts.

I extend my thanks and appreciation to everyone who posts here for sharing their knowledge and experiences with the EX1. What a great resource!

No, it does not waste 10MBit/s for audio, because mediainfo is telling me this about a xdcam-transfered file:

There are 2 audio-streams with 768kbit/s and the file-size of the tranfered file doesn't differ from the size of the native mp4-file on the sxs-card.
