Sony PMW-EX1 on Sachtler DV6 and DV8 photos
 

buying sticks and heads is a LOT easier than a mike!

below is the sony on:

1. sachtler system 0650 which is their DV6SB with Sachtler's Carbon sticks.
amazingly, this rather light looking setup is very heavy (>20lbs).
the one touch lock and release is still a 2 hands operation as one hand is needed to hold up the camera while the other adjust each leg's new height. takes practice but some may not like it.
the petrol case with the system is extremely nice!



2. sachtler dv8/100SB head does not look too large for the sony, as you can see.
i love using the gitzo GT3530S carbon sticks here. the 100mm bowl is gitzo's G1424 and it matches perfectly with the sachtler dv8/100 sb 100mm assembly.

i found it easier to adjust height with the twisting knobs on the gitzo sticks and the weight of this setup is about 8 pounds lighter than the sachtler 0650 in the other photo!

counterbalance on either with or without extras on the sony is ideal with either setup.


in summary, the dv8/100 sb for the sony pmw-ex1 and the sachtler 650 with the dv6sb for my B camera.

Did you find that the EX1 balances OK on the System 0650?

Mine tends to have a little rearward bias, especially with the large battery.

i have the u60 and the shotgun on in this picture and usually have a LED light.
with that much, the counterbalancing on the dv6sb has been fine.

With the U60, mine leans quite heavily to the rear. I wouldn't imagine that the microphone would make much difference. Did you need to set it up so that it's as far forward as possible on the plate?

unless you removed the position pin on the Touch & Go® plate DV (0264), there is only one way the plate mounts on the EX1. i guess you could mount it 1 of 2 possible ways, but i have mine with the position pin toward the Sachtler logo and the camera screw near the counterbalance knobs.

my balance plate setting is at 0 when i go ahead with counterbalance settings.

you may well have another plate, hence the issues.

I just got the DV6 and 2-stage CF legs to go with EX1 and Letus. So far so good, except for still being in shock over paying more for a tripod than I did for my first car.

As you can see, the plate has to be slid back to 6 to balance, though I can still probably tinker with the rails. Balances very nicely now, though if I add a matte box I'll need to get Zacuto's lunchbox.

This is a long overdue upgrade from a Bogen 503, and what a difference.

i had the 503hdv for 2 weeks and now it's in the closet.
yes, the sachtler is very different, even over the gitzo heads.

the sticks, on the other hand with the systems i am not that excited over.

btw, what's with the tape?

To lock in focus on the Letus. I need to work on the look...

I like these legs a lot (Speed Lock 75CF Tripod Legs)--goes pretty low and high (27 / 63) and the legs extend full length easily, just one release.

yep, got the same cf legs with my 0650 system.

have you figured a way to adjust the height on the 75cf with only one hand?

No, at least not to go higher. Which legs can do that, other than those with a geared center column?

i think sachtler does have a rapid center column model in a 100mm sticks. no carbon so heavy.

also, you really cannot quickly go down with our 4588 without holding onto our heavy gear with the other hand.
