SxS footage hang up...

Hi folks,

I've got FCP 6.0.2 installed.

I then installed XDCam Transfer and the SxS drivers.

I can now see the card on the desktop but when I open it with XDCam Transfer the clip images won't show up and I can't import the files.

Also

FCP won't import the files from the card.

Any thoughts?

Which Version of XDCam Transfer do you have? 2.7.0 is the newest, links all over this forum.
Also look for a FCP 6.0.3 update?

That should be a start

You must have QT 7.4.5 and then Apple Software Update will show additional Pro App updates. None a specifically called FCP 6.0.3 but it'll be in there.

Current versions I'm using
QT 7.5
ClipBrowser 1.0.1
XDCAM Transfer 2.7
FCP 6.0.3

Maybe the issue is your version of QuickTime.

Are you using PPC or Intel Mac? There was an issue with PPC in which QT 7.3.1 would work but 7.4.x would result in issues importing the clips.

Are you point XDCAM Transfer tool to the parent folder?

Thanks Craig!
I'm running the same show as you except the latest FCP 6.0.3 update.
I'm updating Pro Apps now..... Maybe that will fix the issue.
I'll let you know :)

Intel Mac.

Fixed with a Pro Apps update that brought me up to 6.0.3 :)

Question:

Why do all the clips open up in FCP when I open XDCAM transfer? Is this necessary? Normally I would import them to FCP.

Standing by......

There's an XDCAM Transfer Pref setting that can turn off open in FCP. What I do is first rewrap to mov in Transfer and then open/import into FCP. I like keeping that pref off since having FCP pop open when you don't want it to can be a real drag on things.

Right-o Craig. Thanks!

Sorry.... Can you please tell me why we (or you) re-wrap to mov files?

Final Cut Pro on Mac. That's what it wants to see. It's Quicktime based.

As I said before, FCP needs to see rewrap to mov.

EX is MPEG2 Long GOP in MP4 wrapper.

Many NLEs need to see it rewrapped to MP4.

Some like Sony Vegas can apparently handle the MP4.

Craig, Do you have a quick moment to explain how to rewrap the files using transfer?

have you also install the FCP plug from Sony that allows you to capture and import without using XDCAM transfer. it is call the Log & transfer utility for mac go here:

http://www.sony.ca/xdcamex/software.htm

With it, you just log your clip like before the normal SD way
