Tekkeon Battery Pack on EX1

http://www.tekkeon.com/site/products-mypowerall.php

I am planning to buy the Tekkeon MP3450 for my LED video light. I like to also know is there any EX1 users who bought this to use on their EX1? If yes, how does it plug into the EX1? Do I need to buy any extra adapter tip from Tekkeon? thanks

I'm also planning to get this Tekeon Battery for my motorized tripod mount and back up for my EX1. Dean Harrington here at DVinfo has this battery and will have an EX3 soon so lets wait and see what he says.
BTW, what LED lights do you have? I'm also looking for portable LED lights too.

My I recommend the Zylight, they use the Tekkeon as their battery pack for the Zylight.

I have sample footage using the Zylight here as a on camera light.

May take some time to load.

This is what I used. A videolight made in Japan. This is a old model. It can take Sony, Panasonic or Canon battery depending on what adapter you buy. It can also run on 12v external battery. Max brightness is 450lx

This is the newer model

I bought this battery from Zylight along with their Z90. Was very disappointed to find that despite ordering the "Worldwide adapter kit" it came with no UK mains lead. Had to fabricate one myself.

Not sure what you're asking with regard to EX1 connectivity. I don't believe it can be plugged into the EX1?! I power the Zylight Z90 from the battery pack after I've charged it via the mains, although I don't have the bracket support attached to the camera I need to actually hold the battery while it's powering the "on camera" Z90 Zylight - ran out of money!

I have just bought the MP3450 to power the EX1. There is no compatible tip from the manufacturer. I went to an electronics mart and went through all the adapters until I found the right tip, I'm now planning to solder it to the lead that comes with the Tekkeon once I figure out the polarity.

Steve, so I should get the plug which you stated below

Radio Shack Plug, Part # 273-1707 “Adaptaplug” “D” 5.5mmO.D.x3.3mm I.D.

I will look for it. By the way, do you have the Tekkeon? I am wondering how many minutes it will provide from a full charge battery

Steve Cahill July 10th, 2008 03:41 AM

I do not have the Tekkeon. I did have to solder and heat shrink over the Radio Shack connector.

Just found this thread again and wanted to say I did make a cable and the Tekkeon is a great way to power the EX-1. I'm going to try it on my EX-3 next.

If you are interested, the nice folk that make the Carrion monitors also make a mount for the Tekkeon battery, a simple, but bit that mounts to your rails that can hold one or two Tekkeon batteries.

Could be better than holding your batteries. I am considering this route to power my Zylight Z90. That or a Bescor shoulder pack, which would be a lot cheaper, and last longer.

Dan, after I cut the Tekkeon cable, there are three smaller cables in white, red and black respectively. Which 2 should be mate together in order for it to close the circuit?

Tks

Just as an update to my post above: I'm been using the Z90 camera-mounted on the hot shoe and powered by the Swit BP-U60 replacement that has a D-tap connector and powers the camera through its DC connector (although it is mounted on the camera just like the BP-U60).

I'm very happy with this battery and now regret having bought two Sony U60 batteries which of course can only power the camera.
