Rode NG-1 Windscreen Choice

I just bought a Rode NG-1 from eBay. It did not include the windscreen. I'll use it on a boom occassionally, but mainly it will life on camera for picking up ambient - in case I want to use it.

I imagine for windy, outdoor shoots I'll purchase and use the Dead Cat Wind Muff that Rode offers (similar to the Rycote Softie). I'll probably use this on the boom also.

Is there any reason to purchase a standard windscreen for on-camera use? Should I just use the Dead Cat for everything? I've not owned one of these high-wind windscreens before, so I'm looking for advice.

Thanks,

You need to have the foam windscreen AND the dead cat. Otherwise it won't fit. I also use this combination (NTG1 + SM5 Shockmount + Deadcat) but am not impressed at all. The mic is fine, the deadcat doesn't help alot and is definitely not similar to a Rycote. It just looks good.

So, a Rycote Softie is the way to go - avoid the deadcat?

Presumably I'll need the foam windscreen for the softie as well - is this correct?
