Back-Up and Polarizer

My EX-1 is arriving tomorrow, and I have a couple of questions.

Back Up
I'll be running with several 8 gig cards for now. Are people satisfied with backing up to DVD-DL? If so, are you using -R or +R? I can also back up to Blu-ray.

Polarizer
Any suggestions for a thin polarizer that will enable the lens hood to be attached? I saw a Hoya thin circular polarizer on B&H's website.

Matte box and other add ons will come later.

Thanks a lot,

Forrest

The Hoya would work, as would the B+W.

I think optical based backup is slow. And it depends upon the archival life you need of the data. A few years-- optical media should last. 10 years. Longer. I'd go with DLT or even better LTO tape.

Just remember to spool you DLT or LTO tapes from time to time or they won't last either.

A few years is probably fine. I do a lot of medical/healthcare work and that is ever changing...so a combo of hard drive and optical back up may be fine, albeit somewhat slow.
