Footage strobes on pans and moves
 

I can't put my finger on it, but it seems since I got my camera back from the Sony update, I am getting beautiful pictures, but when I move the camera (I have a Steadicam type device) the movement seems very fast and blurry. I don't recall getting this before I sent the camera into Sony for the update. Is anyone else having this issue, or do I have a setting incorrect?

No. It is on. I recently switched to 24P and shot some footage. I don't think that would cause it. I am wondering if I shot some of this stuff with Auto Focus and that is causing some of the blur?

Phil, can you post a clip showing the problem?

24P will look soft with movement compared to 30P or 60i unless you use a 180 degree shutter.

I put together a few clips of the issue. It seems things don't stay in focus when I move the camera quickly. Is this a long GOP issue? Anyway, as you all requested, here is the link to the stuff. It is shot using the EX1 on the Flycam 6000. It sure takes a while to get use to the steadicam style system.

What I saw in some of the footage is what I'm experiencing. Especially with something like the palm leaves... razor sharp when you pause your camera's motion, and then as soon as you do a slow pan the sharpness drops considerably. It's not noticeable when panning the ocean so much, just close up 'fine' things. Nice footage by the way.

You flycammed all around that useless bird, and when a pretty girl finally appears in the frame you get gutless! (I want a flycam! And a pretty beach! And warm weather!)

I know, I am ashamed of myself. I had other shot following the girl down the beach, but hit the button and STOPPED recording! I should be sent back to Kodak 8mm school for that!
Getting use to the Flycam is hard work. I am still trying to get it balanced properly. I am gaining on the process, but much is trial and error.

I shoot 24P. What should I have my shutter set at to make it 180 degrees? I have mine set at 1/48.

Over the years, I've learned not to trust motion from PC LCD displays. The EX1 rendered to BluRay, DVD or other post media formats look great displayed on HDTV.

Are there suggested shutter settings for shooting 60i or 30p? I usually shoot 24p/1/48, but have an upcoming shoot where the client wants one of those. There will be some handheld work.

1/60 or off for 60i
1/60 for 30P
