Trick or Treating 2008
 

Took my little nieces to trick or treat this year, decided to drag the EX3 along with us. :)

EDIT: I'm not happy with that render the blacks are all washed out. I will do it again. LOL

that was fun.....

I had to work late out of town halloween and missed my kids ToT'ing...

I find I get better blacks that look more like my pre export.... if I export as appletv preset 1st... then open that and save it as a .mov before upload to vimeo or xr.

But.... I'm sure some of the more experienced editors might have an easier solution.

apple what? I'm on a PC using Vegas pro. :)

I adjusted it using the color corrector, now it has truer blacks but it might be too dark.. what do you think guys?

Can't wait till somebody makes a deal out of the rolling shutter.

Bah, it wasn't so bad.. I'd rather have a few half frame strobe lights than have a spike coming off all the bright lights like a CCD does.

I took down the first video, I couldn't stand to look at those washed out blacks. :)

For something that looks like just taking out the cam for a Halloween stroll in the neighborhood, I'd have to say that it's one of the coolest Trick or Treat events I've seen.
I was wondering if Tim Burton owned that neighborhood.
Without nit-pickingly studying the clips and being that so many scenes had strobes going on I think I only noticed a rolling shutter issue once. Even that didn't strike as something major.
It did look like some scenes were shot with a slower shutter speed but, only really noticeable when panning.
Though I think it looks a bit cleaner, it reminds me of when I've had to shoot some outdoor Art events with my PD170 in very low to almost no light. Perhaps being used to that the blacks didn't bother me.
Then again, I was having a lot of fun just watching the clips.
Would like to know if and how far you pushed the gain? I recently picked up an EX1 but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Since some of the work I do involves working outdoors in low light without being able to add a light and having very little to no control over the environment examples like this are really helpful.

Hey thanks for watching. I was trying out the 2 frame slow shutter that night. On vimeo the blurring isn't so bad, but at full resolution it was bad enough that I decided not to use it for hand held again. Not unless I really try and hold the camera motionless.

The gain, I am a bit picky about graininess so I never go past 9 or 12db anymore. Hardly ever dip down to 12 actually. I'd rather throw the camera onto a tripod and use slo shutter than to grain it out with high gain.

I actually can't remember the settings for that night but it was more than likely about 9db.
