MxR Update
Hi Guys,
I want to thank everyone for your fantastic support on this project, it's been overwhelming. I apologise if I haven't answered every email, we've been madly trying to get an ecommerce site up and running from scratch, and if you have ever tried to do it in three days,... Give me an impatient edit client anytime. We should be ready to take orders on our brand new site from Friday (US time). I'll post the address as soon as it is ready to go. We decided to use the Paypal interface, as we had many requests for it, and as it seems to provide security for everyone, including non - Paypal customers. Delivery of stock is still on track for the 19th of December, and we will start shipping that day. In the meantime we've been testing some of the cards we've been asked about, specifically the Transcend 8GB and 16GB and I'll publish what we found tomorrow. We're also testing some generic brands to see if any of those might be rebadged Sandisk, or maybe a generic that can do better, so far, not much luck. They all seem about as fast as the Lexar SSD, which is fine for HDV but not for HQ, but are very cheap. So for now, thanks again for all your terrific support. |
Caveat Emptor
Ross, please be careful with that PayPal account. Watch it like a hawk. I lost almost $6,000 to them 4 years ago and ultimately gave up trying to get it back (which is kind of the idea I think). See Welcome to PayPalSucks.com, PayPal Lawsuit, PayPal Alternative, PayPal Complaints, Fraud & Evil behind the PayPal system! for a taste of their arrogance. (Oh - and go back and read that User Agreement - you won't believe what you signed away).
With PayPal, your money is deposited into a PayPal Account, which PayPal Fully Controls. Since PayPal is NOT a bank, they do not need to follow federal banking regulations. These regulations are designed to help the "Average Joe" avoid issues like having their bank account frozen for weeks or months with no explanation. Who would trust their money with a bank that could do that? Sadly, Paypal routinely freezes its customers' accounts for almost anything and without warning. Once an account is frozen, the funds are often held by PayPal for months on end with Absolutely No Recourse for the merchant. I for one, can not support PayPal in any way. I'm hoping you'll take some alternate form of payment. Good luck! |
Paypal return policy really sucks.
I bought an old Hi-8 video camera a few years ago and it took over 45 days to get, in fact i never got the camera. They would not give me my money back. They said they had a 45 day no return policy. I had to contact my credit card and they took the money away from paypal. Beware all. |
G'day Ross :-) Could you please give your waiting community an estimate when your shop
will be open? Preferably Sydney time... Highly appreciated. P. |
Ross, you need not be concerned about PayPal. Major retailers around the world are currently using PayPal on a daily basis.
Looking forward to doing business with you! |
I had my paypal accoount frozen with £1800 in it. My mistake was to open two paypal accounts. I didn't realise it was against the rules because I didn't read the terms. I got my money back after 6 months. They will give it back because if they don't it is theft.
Since then I have always never left more than a couple of hundred in my Paypal account. Worst case scenario is I will lose that for 6 months. I have a 100% feedback rating on Ebay with over 1200 transactions. (I sell 4x4, 5.65x4 and 6.6x6.6 Tiffen and Formatt filters at 20% list) The best ebay has to offer seller wise and aim to keep it that way. Keep your paypal account clean and safe by posting out promptly, paying promptly and give prompt replies to customers. Then there really is no problems. So Ross, you will get inundated with Paypal orders in the next few days. Don't let the mney build up as a flag will go up on Paypal asking who is this new client and what is all this money coming in. Empty your Paypal account down daily to your bank account. |
Ive used Paypal for my business daily for about 6-7 years now and have never had problems. I love it. Doing a deal with banks or credit card companies would not be sensible for smaller companies since the costs are so high. Using paypal is actually a LOT cheaper then any other way to charge customers.
One thing you need to know is that at least in EU when you hit a certain limit of transactions (7000 euros or so) you need to verify your account by faxing a copy of your passport and a utility bill that certifies your address. During this time the you cant close your account or withdraw money to your bank account. This was a bit of a hassle but eventually worked out ok. Sami |
Call me out of touch but......what are you going to be selling?? Something to do with cards I gather?!
|
I'm glad I wasn't the only one wondering what this thread was about. What is MxR? I'm guessing it's a new inexpensive replacement for SxS, like SDHC is. Hopefully it records 720/60P for slow motion.

PayPal? Count me out.
Too bad as I was looking forward to ordering. I don't trust them for seccurity. With a credit card you don't have to give them your bank account information. With PayPal, you do. So if they get hacked, they get your bank account information. Some people swear by PayPal so let them order. Then again, I don't bet at casinos or buy stocks either so maybe I am in the minority. Pay Pal? They have my CC number from various transactions like amazon and others.
They never asked for details of my bank account, though. |
