Night shots with EX1?
Shooting city skyline with EX1: looks fabulous at daytime, but at night...
I can try to best describe it as being "muddy". Kinda slightly out of focus, dirty image. Is there a recommended setting for telephoto night scenes with EX1 that'd make picture look better? |
NYC Fireworks at night with EX1. Does this look muddy to you?

Thanks for the sample Craig. However I don't think there's a download link on your Vimeo page. Without it, I can't tell what the original footage looked like vs. what Vimeo compression did.
Maybe it's how EX1 represents shadows, I don't know. Looks greenish in both mine and yours footage. Lights (bridge, building windows) don't seem to be sharp. Kinda blooming. Then again, I do that on the telephoto end, with wide open aperture... I'm basically comparing with (35mm originated?) footage that I watch on the commercial Blu-ray movies vs what I get from EX1. Latest was Ghost Rider - what a great picture quality. Maybe it's unfair to make such comparison, but then again maybe I just don't know how to get the best out of EX1. |
link is the bottom right where all download links are on Vimeo but that too is compressed from 1080p30 to 720p30 before uploading.

Beautiful/amazing footage Craig. We just ordered our EX3 today.....I can't wait. (maybe I'll get it in time to shoot some Christmas lights or something)
