monitor flicker problem despite everything...
 

Hello,

I just bought an EX1 and did my first shoot with it.
Camera settings: 1920x1080, 25p, shutter speed 1/50, camera iris and focus at manuel control.
I was shooting a computer monitor (50Hz land) and no matter what I tried, I couldn't get rid of the flicker problem.
First, the flicker reduction was at auto and I tried every possible number on the ECS adjustment setting, but didn't help. I tried 1/100 shutter speed and even 1/33, but no good.
Then I turned the flicker reduction off and tried the same, still no change.
Then I turned the flicker reduction on and tried the same, still nothing.
Then, I brought the camera iris and focus to auto and tried it all again, still nothing.
I think the firmware is 1.11 as I had ordered the MxS card readers from Australia, they arrived today and they seem to work well...
So, am I missing sth? Is there anything I can try? I will start a big shooting trip in about two weeks, so I need to urgently figure this one out... All ideas and suggestions are welcome!

ECS should be able to sync up with the refresh rate of the monitor. That's what it's for. Make sure everything is in manual mode.

I assume the camera was locked off on a tripod as any movement will make the monitor flicker.

alister: yes, the camera was locked on a tripod
Greg: everything was at manual mode... except white balance perhaps... i will try again with white balance at manual mode...
so anyone else with any other suggestions???

Turn flicker reduction off and leave it off unless you are shooting in 25fps in a 30fps country. It causes more problems than it cures.

Lock the camera off pointing at the monitor, turn on the shutter, select ECS and run through the shutter speeds. The most common speeds for computer CRT's are 60hz, 70 or 75hz.

Normally you don't get flicker so much as a dark bar rolling up or down the monitor.

You could always use an LCD monitor instead as LCD's almost never flicker.

OK, problem solved!!! I hadn't turned the shutter switch on!!! Well, i forgot that it existed to be more precise :) trying to get used to the new features on this camera!
