EX-3 Shooting with a net

When shooting with our Panasonic SDX-900 we often liked to shoot with net between the lens and the camera, giving highlights a pleasing glow. We found the iRing to be particularly helpful for this.

I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with using a net with the EX-3. Since it's a nonstandard lens mount it seems like it would be more challenging to properly mount the net, and keep it from interfering with the electronics connections.

Thoughts?

One thing to be careful about is the 1/2" chip has greater Depth of Field than a 2/3" chip, so you will need to be more careful about seeing the net itself in the shot, especially as the f stop gets smaller. Even with the 2/3" chip you probably know to generally avoid 5.6 or over and especially with wide lenses.
Another consideration is just that Hi Def tends to show up diffusion filter characteristics more than SD.

Test and try it out. Post your results. I'd like to see them. Its not a bad idea to try it out over the front of the lens first to get an idea. In my experience in SD it wasn't enormously different than behind the lens.

Definitely not as easy to put a net on the standard lens of the EX 3 as the mount doesn't protrude like the 2/3 inch B4 mount. The solution may be to use the adapter so you can use a more traditional lens if you want to put a net behind it. My experience with 1/2 as opposed to 2/3 inch sensors and nets it the density of the stocking acts slightly differently so you may have to experiment to get the results you want.
