Convert 720p60 to 720p30 with frame dropping?

Hi,

What software do you use to convert 720p60 (shutter =1/125) to 720p30 ? I was hoping that Sony Vegas 8c would do the job, but 720p30 video is blurrier, as if the frames were averaged instead of dropped. I've rendered my Sony Project to an MXF file.

Thanks for any help.

If your source is 60p, then converting to 30p will, typically, just drop one field from each frame to give you 30p. In effect, you're halving your resolution by dropping one field per frame.

I might suggest setting project properties to interlaced, then exporting to progressive with "blend fields".

Hi Bill, The interlace method you suggested didn't produce a difference. Sami answered this question in another thread:

edit: thread link corrected. Sorry, Bill

BTW, Bill, I really liked your Picture Profiles for the EX1. The colors are excellent, and I've always had outdoor trouble with overexposed light skin. Your profiles keep them in range.

thanx, Gints.
BTW, your link just sends me back to this thread. But, I am curious what Samy recommended.
edit: ahh, I found it.

That would be true if the source material was 60i. However, 60p does not contain any fields - only whole frames. So dropping half of them should not affect the vertical resolution only the temporal resolution.
