Samples using new Turbo.264 HD stick from Elgato with Final Cut pro 6 and iMovie 09

the new Turbo.264 HD USB stick can now do 1080p, not with the old .264 and it is much faster with my macbook pro 2.4g+4GB RAM

i take stock 1080/30p footage shot indoors at 1/60 sec and +6db gain (for faces) and +3db gain. no image stabilization.

the following 8:47 720p clip took about 40 minutes to render in Final Cut pro 6 with the elgato turbo.264 HD Encoder/Accelerator USB card (also with AVCHD so your other consumer cams works as well...)
my macbook pro is 2 years old, so the new 2.93g macbook pro with 4 or 8gb ram will look at sub 20 minutes times.

the .MOV file was at about 6000 bit rate.

the software from elgato was a lot more stable than the last stick.
great.

here is that 8:47 piece in 720p

FCP workflow or setup with Elgato Turbo 264 HD ?

Hello everyone,

I bought the Elgato Turbo 264 HD yesterday and do not get satisfying results.
I work with an Imac 3.06 24" from may 2008 and 4 G of Ram. I edit XDCAM EX 1080 25p footage 48 KHz audio on a XDCAM EX 1080 25p timeline.
1) I export the movie to quicktime with actual settings but not in autonomous file . Then I load the video into the Elgato interface window and launch an encode at 1080 25 p 5000 kb/s rate.
The result is ok for the picture but I get a 2 sec out of sync audio from beginning til the end (ie. the out of sync start at the beginning of the movie and is not due to different audio sample rates).

2) I export through compressor through the quicktime component and choose the Elgato. The compression takes more time (about twice) than with my normal compressor settings (1080 25p H264 5000 kb/s AAC 128)

3) I export through FCP via Quicktime component. Same as before with compressor.

With 2) and 3) FCP is not available to continue editing while encoding contrary to what is written everywhere.

I did a lot of Google search and did not find a solution. Anyone can help or shall I send this Elgato back to the shop?

Thanks a lot.
