Slow shutter effect

When I used to have a Z1u once in a great while I used the slow shutter speeds for a blurred time effect - everything in the frame that was moving, or when the camera moved it would leave a trail.
I've had a request for that kind of shot but have no idea how to get it with the EX cameras.
the EX slow shutter puts in in "light gathering mode", that doesn't work. The SLS option under shutter is also too slow.
Under shutter speed the slowest option is 1/60 or 1/48 in 24p.
What I need is something like the 1/4, 1/8 etc that I had on the HDV cameras - or some way to get that effect. Any sugestions?

You have SLS which is in with the standard shutter settings and goes up to 8 frames, roughly 1/4 sec depending on frame rate. To go slower still switch off the regular shutter and go into the "Camera" menu and select "EX Slow shutter" this then gives the option of 16, 32 and 64 frame shutters, 1/2 sec, 1 sec and 2 sec approx at 30fps.

Sounds like you might be selecting SLS slow shutter, but not switching the shutter on with the switch under the lens. If the shutter is switched to 'off', the selections you make in the shutter menu have no effect. If this is the case, try again with shutter on and SLS 4 or 8 and you should get a slow shutter effect very similar to the Z1 1/8 or 1/4.

brilliant! all works just as expected now - indeed I did not flip the "shutter" switch under the lens.
