Sandisk Extreme 3 16GB SDHC Test
 

Hi everyone. I'm new to this particular forum, but was pretty active several years ago.

I just bought an EX1, and while I got 16gb of SxS cards with it, I need more memory. I decided to go and try the Hoodman system, but as their memory cards seem out of stock, and I couldn't find Transcend anywhere, I was stuck looking for an alternative card.

At my local Best Buy, I found some Sandisk Extreme 3 cards. 16gb and Class 6.

i have tried one and shot 5-6 clips, and put the card in my card reader, and the clips look fine. 1080p BTW.

What tests should I conduct before using these in real life?

If you ever need Transend cards..this store in Dallas, Texas has them in stock almost all the time.....I was in there last week and they had 90 16GB cards in stock at $44.00/card

I know your in Canada,,,but I hope this helps.....

Put a card in each slot and record straight through without stopping until both cards fill.
That'll let you know that at no point in a non stop record the buffer will fill resulting in a media error.

Record a bunch of clips, delete one, record a bunch more clips, delete one, keep going until the card is full. That'll make sure that clip deletions don't result in write issues at any point.

BTW make sure when you do several records you wait until the light above the slot goes green before recording again. You have to give the TOC a few seconds to write. You might want to time that. That'll let you know how long you should typically wait during a shoot. It's only a few seconds.

Set camera to 720p24 and overcrank. Start at 720p24/48 and see how long it take before you get a media error. Keep dropping down one frame until until you can record several minutes and not get a media error. That'll let you know the headroom the data rate has. Purely scientific because generally you shouldn't overcrank with the cards.

Of course if you can to 720p24/48 and not get an error please post that immediately and the go up one frame at a time and see when it errors. I doubt the card will sustain 720p24/48 though.
