Removing viewfinder on EX3

any way to remove the viewfinder on the ex3? I saw this mentioned by someone flying the ex3 on a steadicam pilot and wondered how this was done....

Can't be done without major modification. Steadicam ops just remove the diopter.

Thanks David - I thought that as I poked around looking at the camera...

Yeah if you are using the EX3 on a Steadicam you have to remove the diopter for a couple of reasons. Most important is to be able to get dynamic balance without too much difficulty. It's also great as a second viewfinder when you are booming down or doing some gyrations where having a second monitor high up is handy.

There are a few threads on here about trying to remove the viewfinder. Unfortunately there are a whole bunch of thin wires that go between the handle and the viewfinder so there is no easy way to simply "detach" it.
