creeping focus

Has anyone experienced a problem with their cameras in that the focus seems to creep outwards in macro mode?

On a shoot at the weekend, with objects pushed right up to the lens and with the peaking on, whilst focusing onto the closest part of the object to the lens, I noticed that as I let go of the focus ring the band of peaking slowly drifted further along the object.

The only way that I could maintain focus on the nearest point of the object was to slowly but continuously focus closer. The focal plane definitely moves in the rushes when played back too.

Auto focus was definitely off before anyone asks!

Anyone else had this? Is it a send back to sony job?

I had this same issue with my EX1 while doing some Macro work. The focus "hunting" was being caused by "MF Assist" being turned on. It quit doing this creeping when I turned it off.

Ben, macro does not function at all in full-manual focus mode. So, like Dave says, you must have one of the auto-focus assist modes turned on and don't know it. There is nothing wrong with your camera.
