Question to anybody with an EX1R

The EX1R has been in stock at B&H for more than a week now. Yet, I have read no hands on first look reports on this forum. This surprises me. Could it be that nobody has recieved their EX1R yet?

If anybody has an EX1R can you please take a minute and answer these two questions for me. I am trying to make a purchase decision.

1. How flimsy do you find the new slot door? When I saw a preproduction EX1R I found it to be of very poor quality.

2. This may sound silly but the preproduction unit I saw had a horrible looking shiny black plastic base. Someone said this should not be the case with production units. Can you confirm that the base of the EX1R looks the same as the EX1 in this sense?

Thanks!!

I have not seen the Ex1R, yet but I can tell you that the preproduction version of the "old" Ex1 I have seen also wasn't build very well. That's just normal and I don't think that Sony will release a product which doesn't look & feel like quality.

I have had the EX1R now for 2 days.

I got it from my local dealer in NH, I really like it so far.

The door for the cards slides to the left, it does not flip open. Seems quite rugged to me and it stays out of the way even when open.

The base is out of plastic but not overly shiny. It looks fine to me. I may get time to shoot some photos or video of it this weekend. If I do I will post it here.

Here are some comments from some people, on this board.

Thanks! If it would have looked like the preproduction unit I saw you would have noticed. It was definately "overly shiny".

It is also good to hear that you find the door not to flimsy. The one I saw was definately less sturdy than on the EX1.
