Firmware updates?

Hi

Just got EX1R, wondered how to update the firmware when there is new firmware and how does one know when it's available? Does Sony send email alerts or do you have to just often look for an update? And which site exactly?

Also, where can I download XDcam log and transfer? Do I really need to or can I just import via FCP7's log and transfer?

Thanks
K

You are most likely to hear soonest of a firmware update on this site. Definitely Sony will NOT notify you.
Even worse, unless they change their policy, you will have to take the camera to an authorized Sony service center and pay for the firmware update.
There is no technical reason that I know of that the updates cannot be released online, and performed by the owner, but they haven't allowed this yet.

While sony dont tell you there is an update with the EX1R you will be able to do the update yourself. There is a Firmware Up option in the menu. You put the firmware on an SxS card and the camera will do the rest.

I have been told that user updates will also be made available for the original EX1 and EX3, but don't know when this will happen.

Great news indeed!
Another reason to trade in for the R model.

Thanks for the link re: log and transfer - so what is this download (see pic below) and do EX1R owners need it?
