Clips on SD card deleted. Can I recover them?

Hi All,
I have inadvertently deleted clips on a Sandisk 16 Gb SDHC card. I have not written anything on it since.
I have tried about 10 programs which are supposed to recover the files but all that they can do is let me see the folders but there is no mpeg4 file inside of it. Some of the ones I have used are:
Recover My Files, Get Data Back, SD Card Recovery.
I had deleted the card (not format it). Is there a difference in recovery between delete and format?
Has anyone been able to recover clips from a deleted card?
Many thanks,
Ian

When your testing these 10 different types of software, did you set thier options stuff?
because you would need a full cluster scan of the whole disk to do that kind of recovery on a FAT32.
i DL some shareware PenDrive Recovery (first one that came up with my specific parameters) and Deleted JUST the clips on a 16G SDHC card.
Set the software to do a full cluster scan "Options - Exhaustive Recovery" and sent it on its way , , , yaaawwwn.
it Claims to have found everything , then wants $40 to proceed :-) as usual.

Buy Pen Drive Data Recovery Software. Undelete Pen Drive Data - Recover Lost & Missing Files
(see next post)
if you dont see anything after an exhaustive recovery scan, then i would suspect that it is worse off than this test i just made, and wouldnt even go any further (meaning pay).

Even if it thinks it found something, paying doesnt mean it will recover usefull data anyway, been there done that. just that this software did at least attempt a full scan, which is a start on the right road.

so that was a Delete test, without overwriting stuff:
after a "Quick" Format in windows, that software didnt find anything but the directories. :-(
next level,
was thier (or anyones) RAW mode scanning, which that pendrive software didnt do. by scanning the clusters trying to find un-re-written areas and reading the file headers and trying to piece together thier contiguous clusters (often only when sequential).
that meant thier desktop Fat/NTFS software (which still works with flash). Download Windows Data Recovery Software. Fix Windows Files. Salvage Windows Data
then that found stuff i had deleted Long ago, stuff i didnt even know was on the card.
(limit the cluster search area)
still didnt do what it could do :-(

Then i did a "FULL" format, in windows disk manager, which certannly isnt a Wipe , because it would take a LOT longer than that to wipe out every piece of data off the disk.
the software still found STUFF on the disk.

so i would say that given the right software (whatever that is) untill you OVERWRITE the data , even a Quick format or even that fast "full format" wont completly wipe a flash disk, and the chances for recovering SOMETHING with the right software is possible.

so i wouldnt give up, i would just try and find software in the PILE out there that actually works. just need to find the software that will do a full scan, and recognise the Headers your trying to recover, and assemble the file without fail. <-- that being the hard part.

Thanks Marty for your suggestions. Unfortunately nothing so far has been able to recover the files that I need.
I did do a full scan of the flash drive but there were no usable mpeg4 files.
Thanks for your help.
