Strange video effect with canon 600 lens

We have an EX3 with a Canon 150-600 5.6f variable prime. I do not know what to call this problem but the out of focus areas are vibrating and such. This is with the camera at 600 or so. Some signs show up at other zoom numbers. Any answers? Thanks--

Looks like simple heat haze to me, you've got a lot of magnification there.

I thought I would attach a higher quality clip. Take a look over the eagles right shoulder.
thanks

Yes, heat haze. That's my only thought anyway.
Steve

Thanks Steve. We suspected heat haze but were fearing some "electronic" issue.

Adding 7D Lens

Hi Mark, can i ask what do u use to connect your lens to the ex3, i have a few different canon DSLR Lens from my 7D.

Robert, Mark uses an Adaptimax Canon EF to PMW-EX3 adaptor. We also make a Nikon version as well.

Mark, when you use a magnification over 500mm, the heat haze definately shows. There's a lot of air between the lens and the subject.

I used a 1000mm Sigma prime on the EX3 ( a magnification of X5.4 means that it was a 5400mm lens!) and the haze was very clear in the moon shot.

adapter

Robert I am contacting the cameraman to get the exact setup he has and will post it asap.
Steve thanks for the info.

It's extremely likely that the Canon 150-600 would have a Universal mount. This is a special design that basically chops the back end of the original lens off and replaces it with a custom back end that allows mounts of any type to be attached (typically PL, B4, Nikon etc.)
I've had several 150-600s and various others in Universal mount (Canon 300 2.8, 500 4.5 and 800 5.6).
AFAIK AF Canon lenses can not be mounted onto the EX3.

Robert from the lens it goes a Century Optics conversion to Sony 1/2 in. to EX3 adaptor. Mario, our cameraman already had the century optics conversion on the lens for his 35mm camera. He purchased the Sony 1/2 from Schneider Optics - Home. Hope that helps.

As I thought. You could also get an EX3 mount to put directly onto the lens so not needing the 1/2" adapter.
