Gee, I guess they aren't worried about shooting footage for the BBC huh? ;-)

It was a sarcastic comment what with all the obsession, hype and chest beating around shooting 4:2:2 50MB because that's the "BBC Standard" and (unspoken) what the recent Canon entrance into solid state cameras shoot ... albeit on a 1/3" chip.

My eyes must be getting old, I can only see one EX3.

Regarding the BBC and other stations that turn their nose up at 35mbs, I doubt if anyone could see the difference between 35 and 50mbs. I saw some news reel footage of the airline crash landing on the bay in New York, I doubt if any broadcast company would turn this down because it was shot at 50mbs.

The point I make is, if your footage is good then it will get used.

Vincent

That works for newsworthy footage. But news is a small part of the production world. Clients very often dictate what camera/format they will accept.
Discovery HD considers the EX cameras fully acceptable, that is a very good standard.

There was an EX3 one on each side of the field sorry I did not get more photos to busy shooting the cheerleaders and the Game. I will try to talk to one of the video guys at the Dallas game on the 26th.

Don't forget, it's not a BBC edict as such, it's the recommendation of the EBU.

It's always been like this, even with SD there were programmes that would accept DVCam and others that insisted on Digibeta, due to the compression casuing issues on broadcast. And this was why Digibetas cost more than 5x as much as DSR500s, just as it's why a PDW500 will cost more than 5x as much as an EX3.
