FCP footage help
 

I use FCP with our EX1 in 1080p 30 and all has been fine. We also use a canon HFS 100 for some B roll and bring it in via compressor saved out in the XDcam format and it loads right in along with the EX1 footage fine as well.
We just started using a Canon T2i in 30p and the files are .mov and we convert tham via compressor to XDcam 30p and they load fine as well.

HOWEVER...when you make a dissolve the T2i footage plays fine before render but jumps after it renders.
Also the audio is totally floating around and not it sync with the video.
If the T2 i native .mov is brought in and rendered via FCP to conform to the XDcam sequence it works fine, but requires a render every time the footage is moved around.The audio is also in snyc.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Craig, XDCAM is an MPEG timeline. Thus when you mix and try to match the various footage as described, the MPEG GOP/LGOP (Group of Pictures/Long Group of Pictures) is going to shift around depending on the number of frames in each GOP and which frame you select within a GOP.

The better way to edit from the various sources of footage is to use ProRes rather than XDCAM sequences. Larger file sizes to work with but you won't have frame sync problems. You will also discover that ProRes is less likely to show degradation in your edits, especially if your using SFX in the edits. Cheers!

Much appreciated Barry. I had this nagging feeling that Pro rez was the way to go. I 'll give that a try first thing.
