Reading glasses for EX1R LCD
 

After shooting 2-1/2 days of a conference this week and experiencing a lot of eye strain, I picked up a pair of 1.25x (non-prescription) magnifying glasses for 15 bucks. Wow what a huge help! (I don't even need glasses for reading or computer use). These cheapo glasses magnify and sharpen just enough to really help with focus and peaking. They start at 1.25x and go up to much higher magnification. I do have a Hoodman Loupe which is pretty much the same idea, but I don't want to be glued to it all day long when shooting an event on a tripod. The only problem with them of course is that everything in the room is out of focus when you look up from the LCD. (I don't have an portable HD field monitor yet)

LOL Vincent, absolutely right. I now have a prescription pair especially for shooting with the LCDs. Not quite coke bottle bottoms, but getting there.

Yep, I just turned 48. Let the fun begin!!! I even recently had an eye exam and she said my close up vision was OK. I'm going to go back and ask for what you have Claire. I'm not sure if regular corrective reading lenses *magnify* as well, but that seems to be the thing that helps the most.

Same here Keith, it was my late 40s too! You can't roll back the years. Just mind you're not tempted by the laser treatment stuff - there is the odd chance it will retire you.

Look out for those pesky steps when wearing your LCD glasses - it could be a long way down.

You youngsters make me feel so old. I have been wearing glasses since my mid forties and also had diopter lenses fitted to my SLR cameras. The EX3 with its large viewfinder works perfect even when wearing glasses. I also have a Canon XF305 and use the flip out LCD for composition only, I focus through the viewfinder on that camera.

It's not only the staircase you have to worry about Claire, have you noticed your feet also seem to be bigger. The first day that I had a new pair of glasses I kicked over a display stand in the opticians and all the glasses went flying everywhere.

Now where did I put my tripod ?
